A blend of scattered thoughts, visual projects, and moments worth remembering.
Almost 10 years ago, I had the honor of collaborating with a group of friends and activists to create this mural in memory of Brisenia Ylianna Flores and her father, Raul Flores Jr., who were murdered in their home by members of the white supremacist nationalist gang Minutemen in Arivaca, Arizona.
Brisenia was only 9 years old.
This mural holds her image and her memory, surrounded by our grief and resistance. The words "They tried to bury us, they didn't know we were seeds" remind us that no matter how violently our communities are targeted, we continue to grow, organize, and protect each other. May we never forget Brisenia. May we keep fighting for a world where all children are safe, where families are not targeted by hate, and where justice doesn’t come too late. ♡
